What we talk about When we talk about Islam

This coming Friday, October 20th, the NBCC is hosting a panel about representations of Islam. Historian, novelist and New Left Review editor Tariq Ali (Clash of Fundamentalisms) meets in conversation with former NBCC finalist Eliot Weinberger (What Happened Here) to discuss the ways that Islam and its adherents are represented in the U.S. and abroad, and the consequences of these representations for the future of East-West relations, the "War on Terror," and the possibilities for understanding peace. Rashid Khalidi, the Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia, and author of "The Iron Cage: The Story of the Palestinian Struggle for Statehood" will moderate the discussion. The event begins at 7Pm at McNally/Robinson Bookstore, which is located at the corner of Mulberry and Prince Street in SoHo. For more information, call (212) 274-1160.
